Reflection

Parables are the most characteristic feature of Jesus' teaching.  The meaning of many of the parables is often complex and debatable, their significance is constantly being reinterpreted.  Our gospel today presents us with the parable of the sower and the seed.  Each of us must ask ourselves how the Word of God is received and shared, we can respond or fail to respond to the Word of God.  Are we happy to be followers of Jesus only when things are going well for us, and have no real commitment to our faith.  Maybe the Word of God is unnecessary and irrelevant to our daily concerns therefore God's Word is easily dismissed.  Am I the person who hears the Word of God and makes it central to my life taking guidance and consultation from my faith.  The words of Isaiah in our first reading should help us in our interpretation of the parable of the seed and the sower 'As the rain and snow come down from the heavens and do not return without watering the earth, so the Word that goes from my mouth does not return to me empty.  God's Word is still scattered generously today.  We should reflect carefully on todays Gospel, what kind of harvest am I producing?  By the way I live my life I sow seed's for good or bad.  Is there not a saying "Don't do what I do, do what I say.  How contradictory is that?  Can I stand by my words?  Fr.  Paul
