Reflection

in todays Gospel, -the Canaanite woman stands for all those who are marginalized, ostracized and ignored.  Jesus does not want to reject or hurt her but to bring out her faith in all its fullness.  For God there is no such thing as an outsider, our God is a God of inclusion rather than exclusion.  The God of the bible is a God of love who desires to draw all peoples to Himself.  He is a God who seeks to tear down the divisions which separate peoples and to heal the woulds which divide.  Jesus comes first for the Jews as the chosen people, but he does heal the daughter of the Canaanite woman.  Why?  In the words of Jesus, "Woman you have great faith, your wish will come to pass." Jesus reaches out to those who are not Jewish, showing that God's healing love is for all people who place their faith in him.  A question we should all answer is what are the barriers we erect to keep others out?  What fears keep us from welcoming the stranger and the person ",ho is different?  In what ways have we set boundaries and highlight what divides while ignoring what unites?  There is only one thing which moves us beyond what keeps us in fear, genuine love, we can only live at peace and in security when we learn to forgive and accept each other as God's precious gift.  Let us keep in mind the words of St. Paul be kind to one another forgive each other as God forgives us. Love is the greatest power in the world.  Motivated by love we can do anything.  Today we have a great example of faith, courage and love shown by the Canaanite woman.  Let us try with courage to have faith and love as we journey through life. Fr.  Paul
