Reflection

Each of us is called to mission, wherever we are.  We have mission in our family, in our work, in our school, in our community, in our parish.  We have mission to witness to the stranger.

We should not be ashamed of the gospel.  Keep the faith but not from others.  Our faith can never be a purely private matter.  Our faith is strengthened when it is shared with others.  We can gently talk about what faith means to us when we have an opportunity, e.g. when my daughter was ill, my faith strengthened me.  But way of life speaks more eloquently than words.  If our words are contradicted by behaviour, acceptance will be more difficult.

Mission Sunday is about a very particular mission within the general mission to bear witness to Christ.  It is about reaching out beyond our home boundaries to those in foreign lands who have never heard about the good news.  Some give to the missions by going.  These are the missionaries who share their faith.  Preaching the Good News requires dedicated people who are prepared to leave their home and go to new lands for the sake of the gospel.
