Reflection |
|
They
say patience is a virtue,
personally I like things to happen
fast and lack patience and yet on
reflection the older I get the
more patience I seem to have.
In life most of us want
instant results from appliances to
relationships and even
spirituality.
We even lack patience with
God, why do we still have wars,
hatred, sickness, death and sin?
Why doesn't God clean all
this ugliness up?
God like us must simply
watch and wait.
Jesus tells a series of
parables which point to the
measured pace of God's work.
The Mngdom of God is like a
mustard seed, rising dough and
crops planted in a field.
All these take time to
reach their proper end, nature
cannot be rushed.
Our God is a patient
forbearing lover.
The first two readings
today point this out to us.
In the Book of Wisdom we
are told that God has care for all
of us in his heart, God is justice
and patience, God does not rush to
condemn.
St. Paul acknowledges the
reality of our human condition,
God sends his spirit into our
hearts so that we can turn from
sin and lift our minds and our
hearts to God.
When God made us he knew it
would take time for us to reach
our full potential, struggling and
fumbling through the difficulties
life presents us with.
Our God is willing to wait.
We must resist the
temptations to despair that often
assail us.
We must never give up on
ourselves, God never will.
His love for each of us is
everlasting.
Neither must we judge
others. judgement belongs to God.
The church is like a field
of wheat and weeds, made up of
Saints and Sinners.
Through grace may we have
the courage to follow and to
ftirrow the path of saints.
Fr.
Paul
