Reflection

Humankind is called into a relationship with the God of love which is transforming both of the individual and the world.  This is our hope, our desire. it is what should make us tick.  Whatever our particular calling in life, all we truly want is to be close to the source of all love that we too might be love for others.

The mission is our sharing in Jesus' own sending by the Father, our becoming Christ for ourselves and for others.  At the heart of it is the knowledge that what we have experienced ourselves is so great, so wondrous, we can do no other but share it. We must go and tell.  Our proclamation of the message might lack clarity and power; our justicing might be timorous and lacking conviction, but that hardly matters - the Son only needed to be sent once

There are missionaries who go to the parts that others cannot manage.  Proclaiming justices they reach out to the marginalised and excluded, often attracting the opprobrium of the wealthy.  Each year about 30 missionaries are killed in the service of the gospel.  They are certainly models for us - and necessary inspirations, especially for the young.

We should never be downcast in the work of mission anxious that our seemingly paltry efforts are not enough.  Paul knows that if we simply try to fill our minds with all that is good and true, the ultimate outcome - the reign of the God of peace - will happen.  We pray to know that nothing we do in the name of the Son can be anything less than graceful.  But the question still remains - what price are we prepared to pay for our share?  Are we ready to leave our comfort zone to GO AND TELL?
