THE ANNUAL PADRE PIO CEREMONIES commemorating the most wonderful day in his life, his ordination to the priesthood on August 10th 1910 will be celebrated in the grounds of St. Francis College, Rochestown, Cork at 2.30p.m. on August 9th 2009.

EUCHARISTIC CONGRESS DUBLIN 2012  

Events at the last International Eucharistic Congress in Quebec included:

·    A daily celebration of the Eucharist

·    Talks, reflections and workshops on the meaning of the Eucharistic and its implications for Christian living

·    A packed lunch shared by 13,000 participants

·    Choral concerts and plays

·    Dedicated venues for adoration of the Blessed Sacrament

·    A gathering place for young people

* A Blessed Sacrament procession through the streets of Quebec City 0 A closing Mass with a telecast from Pope Benedict.

KILHASSEN CEMETERY.- Mass will be celebrated at Kilhassen on Monday 20th July at 7.30p.m. for all those buried in the cemetery.

BANDON SHOW AND FRIENDS OF BANDON COMMUNITY HOSPITAL MONSTER COUNTRY & WESTERN BARN DANCE Steak Barbecue at the showgrounds, Castlebernard, Bandon, on Saturday 25th July at 9p.m. Music by Colm Cronin followed by disco.  Great night assured.

THE WESTERN HUNT HARRIER CLUB are holding their Annual Dog Show at Jerry Crowley's Crossmahon, Bandon on Saturday July 25th at 8p.m. sharp.  Proceeds of the night to Bandon Branch of Saint Vincent De Paul.

In the World of Silence, Max Picard writes, Ard yet sometimes all the noise of the world today seems like the mere buzzing of insects on the broad back of silence.' There's something substantial about silence.  Often people describe it as 'heavy'.  Silence is formidable, even intimidating, if you're not friendly with it.  But to be friendly with it, first you have to be friendly with you.  One way of finding out if you are, is to go off to a lonely spot and see how long you can stay there before unease sets in.

How  many people follow Jesus' advice to his disciples in today's Gospel (Mark 6:30- 34)     to go to a deserted place for peace and quiet?  Are they not more inclined to go

to a noisy holiday resort where's there's lots of action, lots of people, lots of things to do to fill the gap, lots of ways to forget oneselp Is there not something desperate about having to have a good time, and worse yet to feel obliged to say you had, even though you may not have had?

Getting used to silent, solitary periods to relax, to refresh our spirit and take stock of our life is worthwhile.  It helps us to think about important things that in the normal course of a day we rarely think of.  Things like: life and its purpose, values we live by, people we hold precious, ambitions that drive us, the place we give to God in our life.

Silence is necessary not for finding answers but for finding questions.
