Reflection

Pentecost Sunday is a profound example of Jesus fidelity.  Jesus assured his disciples that he will not abandon them, he also gives us the same assurance.  Today is the day Jesus promised, Jesus did not leave his disciples desolate.  Today we celebrate the gift of the Spirit and the beginning of the public witnessing of the faith-community.  Through his passion, death, burial, resurrection and ascension Jesus remained faithful.  He told his followers of his constant love and guidance.  Today is one of great joys, the Spirit has been poured into our hearts. We can believe and trust in the words of Jesus they are forever.  Our first reading from Acts recounting the Pentecost story, says that the Spirit came to rest on the disciples who began to express themselves in foreign tongues and make bold proclamations as the Spirit prompted them.  The fear that gripped their hearts is now replaced by Gods liberating love.  They must go public and witness that Jesus is Lord.  They must go forth and share the peace they have received from Jesus.  As their sins have been forgiven so now they must set about in the ministry of reconciliation.  On this Pentecost we must ask very profound questions of ourselves and our community.  How do we witness that Jesus is Lord.  We must never be shy about witnessing to our faith we must pray that Jesus will come into our hearts.  Let us pray "Send forth your Spirit Lord and renew the face of the earth."
