Parish Pastoral Development Collection

The Pastoral Office provides a valuable service to the Parishes of the dioceses such as the establishing, training, and supporting of parish councils parish assemblies and their working groups.  Ongoing formation and resources are also provides for these groups.  The number of such groups in the diocese has growrr-rapftffy in recent years and is a real sign of hope for the future of the church.  There is currently either a parish pastoral council or a parish assembly in over 50 of the parishes and more are in the process of being established.  The office is also supporting the work involved in establishing pastoral areas in the diocese so that parishes can work together.

The annual collection, which will be taken up this year on the week-end of May 9th and 10th helps meet the costs of developing and supporting lay involvement in parishes.  It helps fund the work of the Pastoral Development Office by meeting the running costs of the office as well as providing salaries and expenses for lay people who work from the office.  At present, there are two full time Coordinators of Pastoral Development: Sr Karen Kent an Ursuline Sister and Mr Pat Sheehan, from Blackpool parish.  They work with Fr.  Charlie Kiely, Tumer's Cross, who assists part-time, and with Fr.  Tom Hayes who is the Director of Pastoral Planning.  The Office also supports the work of the Diocesan Liturgy Office.  The people of the diocese have supported this collection generously in the past two years.

Bishop Buckley is confident that you will respond again this year with generous recognition of the importance of this service to parishes.
